Miss Universe 1998

Trinidadian Wendy Fitzwilliams

On May 13th,1998 Miss Trinidad and Tobago, Wendy Fitzwilliam, became the new Miss Universe for 1998. The new Miss Universe, a 25 year old law student from Diego Martin, Trinidad, certainly reinforced Trinidad and Tobago’s long standing claim to having the most beautiful women in the world, claiming the ultimate prize from a field of 81 contestants. The law student/model, who made her "international singing debut" at the gala event in Honolulu, Hawaii, holds Caribbean unity dear to heart and sees herself as being up to the job of achieving this. Trinidad and Tobago last attained this honour in 1977 when entrant Janelle Commissiong captured the title. Wendy Fitzwilliam, whose victory was toasted in Trinidad and Tobago Tuesday evening, has indeed captured many hearts and minds all over the nation and indeed the universe.
